We do know that it’ll have 4G LTE (what Verizon phone doesn’t these days?) and may have GSM radios for global use. Today you can also add “WiFi” to that last, though I don’t think there was any doubt that we’d be missing out on that. The device has gotten its WiFi certification.

LG's Tegra 3 phone specifications leak, benchmark tests cower in fear

LG's got a leak and it's revealing some intriguing details on another flagship smartphone — even backing them up with some screenshots. According to MoDaCo's mole, it will brandish a 4.7 inch (720 x 1280) display, powered by LG's first Tegra 3 quad-core setup. Processor speeds for the LG X3 are pegged at around 1.5GHz on a single core, dropping to 1.4GHz during multi-core use. Hopefully, the 2,000mAh battery will withstand all that thinking power, while Ice Cream Sandwich should help push those multitasking chops to its limit.

Tesla to build electric Mercedes

Tesla and Daimler are set to collaborate on a new electric Mercedes-Benz. According to Gigaom.com, the fourth-quarter earnings report released by Tesla earlier this week revealed the company is set to supply a full powertrain for an unnamed electric Mercedes-Benz in the near future. Those components include a motor, transmission, inverter and all of the software necessary to keep the car whirring along. Funds from the deal are supposed to begin trickling in by the second quarter of this year, though no details about production timing or volume were available in the report.

Reputable research firm Gartner today released figures for mobile operating system sales on a global scale in the fourth quarter of 2011. They found that Google suffered a slight decline in market share while Apple gained 8% thanks to the launch of the iPhone 4S. Even with the decline, Google still owned 50.9% of the share for that period, an increase from 30.5% in the same quarter a year ago. Symbian is quickly losing ground as Nokia has abandoned the dated operating system for Android. Once a worldwide powerhouse, Symbian was only accountable for 11.7% of the sales.

Motorola has finally posted its initial timeline for updating its devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This is, of course, subject to change, but we welcome the transparency here, even though it doesn't bring great news. The Motorola Xoom tablets sold in the US count as Google Experience devices, and as such have begun receiving the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in January. How come? Well, because Google maintains the update code for Google Experience devices.

For every other device, it's Motorola itself which has to create the update. And that's where things get lazy.

As reported on February 7th, we got a first glimpse of the rumored specifications for Nvidia's Kepler based graphics cards. The leaked specifications were met with mixed feelings from both sides of the comment fence. Now, we are starting to get more pieces of information on the upcoming Kepler series. Based on information coming out of German-based 3dcenter.org, we may have a clearer picture of the true specifications for Kepler GK104.
Outside of the switch to the 28 nm process, one of the major changes in the Kepler architecture is to allow for more CUDA cores. This is achieved by no longer having shader frequency, just GPU frequency.

Well, the folks over at CrackBerry claim to have landed themselves the very first snapshots of the upcoming operating system. While the images look pretty interesting (I'm definitely reminded of iOS and Android), there's something peculiar about them.

The folks at Xyologic have crunched some numbers recently regarding Google TV. The platform has 64 apps specifically designed for it. Of these 64 apps, six are pre-installed on Google TV devices. Those 6 apps have been “downloaded” 4.44 million times, apparently, out of the nearly 4.8 million apps that have been downloaded. That means that 92% of all apps downloaded on Google TV devices aren't even by choice. Xyologic says a lot of this is due to the “underwhelming” selection of applications on the Android market. Out of those 64 apps, only two have ratings above four stars and many have ratings under three.

Acer has sold quite a few different smartphone models over the years, and most of those were powered by Android recently. However, the company's offerings were never best sellers in any category or price point. It's safe to say that Acer has so far failed to attract the masses to its smartphones. But that may all change in the near future. Acer is set to announce a new Android-powered smartphone during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of this month, and this will be the company's flagship device for this year.

. The security experts at zVelo have discovered a vulnerability in Google Wallet that allows them to “easily reveal” users' PINs. If a Google Nexus is rooted, Google Wallet's PIN verification system can be cracked using a brute force attack. zVelo said on Wednesday that it immediately reported its findings to Google, and the company “agreed to work quickly to resolve it,” although the researchers said Google “ran into obstacles.” To fix the problem, the PIN verification must be moved into the secure element of the NFC chip in a device, however to do so Google must apparently coordinate with banks.

Amazon has updated their Kindle Reader application for Android. The update was moderately small in scope and in size as Amazon has reduced the file size from the 25MB it used to be to the to a measly 8.28MB. The only other change than that are the real page numbers that Amazon now supports. Page numbers on your Kindle e-book will match the page numbers of the physical version of that book (if there is one, that is).

Some books may be printed differently (I know I had a couple of books that had different page numbers in hard and soft copies) but for the most part it should be accurate.

The long-awaited Belle update for older Nokias that launched with Symbian^3 has started rolling out. We received tons of tips (thanks everyone!) and when we plugged in our Nokia N8, Ovi Suite immediately found an update. The update is version 111.030.0609, the latest available version of Nokia Belle, even for the Nokia 701. That means that owners of an N8, E7, X7, C7, E6, C6-01 and Oro will be on par software-wise with phones that launched with Belle.

The update for the Nokia 500 will be delayed a few weeks.

Anyway, the update came a day earlier than expected.

Further highlighting the slump that began in October with the launch of Apple's iPhone 4S, the Taiwan-based vendor posted fourth-quarter revenue of NT$101.42 billion, or approximately $3.5 billion USD, down 2.5% compared to the same quarter in 2010. Gross profit slid nearly 12% in the fourth quarter to NT$27.5 billion, and HTC's total assets on hand at the end of the year slid more than 33% to NT$254.59 billion.

3D printing is elevated to the next level, where a team of surgeons and scientists from Belgium and the Netherlands managed to replace an 83-year-old woman's entire lower jaw in a successful operation which saw her badly infected one removed, only to have a 3D-printed implant embedded in return. This is not the first time such a procedure was performed, but it marks the first time an entire, whole mandible was involved in the operation.

Toyota upgrades limited TS030 Hybrid racing program to full WEC entry

When Toyota announced its return to endurance sports car racing with the new TS030 Hybrid this season, the plan was to enter a handful of races, like Le Mans and Spa-Francorchamps, on an invitational basis. Plans change, though, and Toyota has now upgraded the program to a full manufacturer entry, paving the way for it to compete in the entire FIA World Endurance Championship schedule. Now, with budget constraints, it's likely that Toyota will still pick and choose which races to contest, but it does open the door.

IDC: Nokia, Samsung, Apple are the new top 3 handset makers

The latest figures are in from IDC: the top three global smartphone makers are Nokia, Samsung and Apple, in that order. Drilling down into the figures finds some surprises: Cupertino's third-place with only 8.7 percent of the market, while the giants of Korea and Finland are duking it out with 22.8 percent and 26.6 respectively. LG and ZTE are tied for fourth, but that's hardly good news for Goldstar, given that it's lost a staggering 42.2 percent of its market share in the last twelve months (Nokia was the other loser, eating 8.2 percent).
